Mercy Hasselblad is a Los Angeles cinematographer. She has an intimate relationship with light and loves using natural light to help tell the story. Mercy started out as an artist. Since she was a child, she explored the relationship between composition, light, and shadow. Throughout college she drew on grey canvas instead of white. After she graduated, she illustrated several children’s books, then became a full-time photographer, where she learned the technical aspects of how to create and find good light that a camera could pick up on. For the past few years she has been exploring and using moving cameras to tell her stories.
“I’d say my strong point is using available light in diverse situations. I come from a photojournalistic/documentary background, which really gave me a crash course in using and modifying available light. We have amazing moments of spectacular light on our planet.”
